I was born Cornelius Janzen Friesen, near Saskatoon,Sask,Canada. Also I share my interest in music, hockey, prose and poetry!!A bit of information and photos! Actually the birth certificate says;Sec,23.Tp. 40, Rge. 4 W.3 as the birthplace. Neuanlage!! We had a mixed farm, and besides chores, school and church,we enjoyed sports and music. The sports we played were soccer, hockey and fastball. We all had our own little hobbies, wood carving, perhaps whitling would more aptly describe it.We also mabe our own things to do ,like tire riding, have our own play farm and grew our own little crops Singing was a big part of family in the early years, mother was a wonderful singer and my sisters, could all hold a good tune!Helen and Susie sang a lot as solists and in choirs,as did my brothers John and Pete.Later I would join in as well,I always had to recite poetry, playing rattle bones and singing,, uncle Jake was the fidler in the family, and he taught me about music rythum, however,I always thought about ball!I guess Im a guitar playing ball player with rythum,ha ha!!! The media liked to call me, Red,as did my teammates.. Welcome,I hope that you enjoy this and I will be updating a lot, as this site is permenantly under construction! This is a learning experience!!Something I have noticed ,some people do not care ,others are very interested in the experiences I have had!!This is not to put me in the spotlight at all,I was in the spotlight when I played ball ,thats a whole new ball game.this is here merely for the time and effort ,we as amateur ball players, put into providing good and reasonable entertainment!! We were all as dedicated as the pros are today, without the financial rewards!!I believe we did a fine job of doing just that!!! Read-on!!The pitching to day would certainly have been illegal back in my day ,the pitcher had to present the ball, and we did not crow hop and had no rockin motion at all!! Very straight forward, yet we delivered a good fastball, between 70-100 kmp,the game has improved ,the hitting is better and the pitching still dominates as it did in the ol days!! Travel is far more active today and international ball is common place!!The year when we won the Canadian(1972),we had no way of getting to the worlds, lack of funds!!Today the programs are in place for World play, and the various goups,ISC,ISF,NAFA give more opportunities to reach beyond the Nationals!Growing up one had a dream to play for a Senior Team ,in the area, and at most a great dream to play in the Saskatoon League!!So ,one persued options and kept climbing the Ball ladder to higher levels!! Once one played in the Saskatoon commercial league, one could see that Senoir A ball was within grasp!!To win and be part of a Canadian winner was a real dream!! Dream on and I did!!!A site to rememberS |
